Turath : Journal of Islamic Economics and Heritage Studies is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to exploring the economic dimensions of pesantren, dayah, and other traditional Islamic educational institutions in the Malay world. It emphasizes their roles in Islamic economics, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and sustainable community development, integrating further interdisciplinary insights from business, education, sociology, and cultural studies.

  • Peer Review: All submitted manuscripts undergo rigorous double-blind peer review, ensuring scholarly integrity, originality, and academic quality.

  • Language & Publication Distribution: Manuscripts may be submitted in Bahasa Indonesia or English. Accepted articles in Bahasa Indonesia will receive professional transliteration services into English for broader reach. Each issue typically publishes around 5-6 articles, with approximately 80% in English and 20% in Bahasa Indonesia.

  • Publication Schedule: Two issues are published per year—June and December.

  • Accreditation Status: The journal is currently in the process of applying for accreditation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti).

Turath is positioned as an interdisciplinary journal that bridges Islamic economics with the cultural and intellectual heritage of pesantren, dayah, and other traditional Islamic educational institutions in the Malay world.

  • As its primary subject area, the journal contributes to Economics, Econometrics, and Finance by publishing research on pesantren/dayah economic systems, entrepreneurship, Islamic philanthropy (zakat, waqf, infaq, sadaqah), financial literacy, and sustainable community development. These studies provide theoretical and empirical insights into how Islamic educational institutions actively shape local and regional economies.

  • As its secondary subject area, the journal is aligned with Arts and Humanities (miscellaneous). This reflects its commitment to examining pesantren/dayah as heritage institutions—analyzing their cultural traditions, intellectual legacies, socio-religious practices, and the transformation of their economic roles across history and globalization.

By combining these subject areas, Turath offers a distinctive scholarly platform:

  • It advances Islamic economic studies while situating them within the broader socio-cultural context of the Malay world.

  • It attracts contributions from both economics/finance scholars and humanities researchers, ensuring interdisciplinary dialogue.

  • It addresses not only theoretical and methodological questions but also practical implications for sustainable development and policy-making in Muslim communities.

With this positioning, Turath provides a unique contribution to global scholarship, complementing existing journals in Islamic economics while differentiating itself through its heritage-based focus and regional distinctiveness.
