The Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) was first published in 2012 by the Department of Islamic Economics, Faculty of Law and Sharia, IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, and was assigned P-ISSN 2252-7907.

IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya was renamed UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, accompanied by the establishment of numerous new study programs and faculties.

The Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business was established in 2014, becoming the new jurisdiction for the Department of Islamic Economics. Consequently, starting in April 2014, the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) transitioned from being under the Faculty of Law and Sharia to the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business.

At the end of 2019, the structure of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) underwent changes following the leadership's policy adjustments.

In 2020, the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) was assigned E-ISSN 2716-0335, applied for accreditation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, and achieved Sinta 4 ranking.

Since 2021, the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) has published all its articles with numbers identified by their unique DOI.

In early 2024, the Journal of Islamic Economics and Business (JIEB) was applied for reaccreditation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, and achieved Sinta 2 ranking in 2025.
