FOCUS AND SCOPE
El-Qist: Journal of Islamic Economics and Business is an international, peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. The journal is dedicated to advancing scholarly research on Islamic economic law, ethics, and empirical economic practice within Muslim societies and beyond.
El-Qist positions itself as a specialized journal at the intersection of fiqh al-muʿāmalah, Islamic ethical theory, and evidence-based economic inquiry. Rather than covering Islamic economics broadly, the journal focuses on how Islamic legal norms, moral principles, and institutional frameworks shape, regulate, and respond to contemporary economic realities.
The journal particularly values interdisciplinary and methodologically rigorous studies that integrate perspectives from Islamic jurisprudence, economics, political economy, sociology, development studies, and public policy. Empirical research—quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods—is encouraged, provided it demonstrates clear theoretical, legal, or policy relevance.
