The Role of Horeg Sound in Cultural and Economic Transformations of Mengare Island

This research aims to analyze the importance of Horeg sound in cultural transformation during the 2024 Mengare Carnival. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study examines three key areas: cultural transformation, community perceptions, and the local economic impact. Data was collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with community leaders, local business owners, and participants. The findings reveal that Horeg sound functions not only as entertainment but also as a symbol of cultural identity, strengthening social bonds and fostering community solidarity. While some community members support its presence, others express concerns about the values it promotes. Economically, Horeg sound has a notable positive impact on local businesses, increasing income during the carnival. This study enhances our understanding of the intersection between local culture, economic development, and Islamic values, offering fresh perspectives on how modern cultural practices align with traditional norms.
