Focus and Scope

MAZAWA Journal is an international peer-reviewed journal published twice a year (March and June) by the Faculty of Economics and Islamic Business, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. This journal develops critical, innovative, and contributory research on zakat and waqf, both conceptual and empirical. In line with the growing global interest in contemporary zakat and waqf, MAZAWA Journal provides a unique journal platform that highlights global issues related to zakat and waqf from an interdisciplinary perspective.

MAZAWA Journal highly values interdisciplinary work that integrates various approaches to Islamic philanthropy, management, economics, and accounting, both qualitative and quantitative, in portraying zakat and waqf. The main focus includes Islamic philanthropy, namely zakat, waqf, infaq, and sadaqah as Islamic public finance and fintech.

As an international journal, MAZAWA Journal highlights Indonesia as a critical location for developing Islamic philanthropy innovation, offering case-based insights with broader international significance. Through a double peer-review process and a commitment to methodological diversity, this journal serves academics, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners who seek to develop, inform, and innovate impactfully around the world.
