Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics Statement and Unethical Practices
MAZAWA Journal is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year by Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya, Indonesia. This journal is available online as an open access source. This statement outlines the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the publication process of articles in this journal, including authors, editors, editorial board, reviewers, and publishers. This statement is based on the COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of articles in the MAZAWA Journal is an important foundation for the development of coherent and constructive knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the author's work and the institution that supports it. Peer-reviewed articles support and represent the scientific method. Therefore, it is important to agree on the standards of ethical behavior expected of all parties involved in the publishing process: authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and the public. As the publisher of the MAZAWA Journal, we take our responsibility as guardians at all stages of publication seriously and recognize our ethical and other responsibilities. The MAZAWA Journal is committed to ensuring that any form of commercial income does not influence or affect editorial decisions.
Publication Decisions
The MAZAWA Journal is responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal will be published. The validity of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers should always be the basis for such decisions. Editors may be guided by the journal's editorial board policies and constrained by applicable legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers in making decisions.
Plagiarism Check
In principle, it is the author's responsibility to submit only manuscripts that are free of plagiarism and unethical academic practices. Editors double-check each article before publication. The first step is to check for plagiarism against an offline database developed by the journal.
Fair Treatment
An editor evaluates manuscripts based on their intellectual content at all times, regardless of the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, other editorial staff, and the publisher, as necessary.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Unpublished material disclosed in submitted manuscripts must not be used in the editor's research without the author's written consent.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communication with authors, can also help authors improve the quality of their articles.
Timeliness
Selected reviewers who feel they are not competent to review the research reported in the manuscript or know that timely review is not possible should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review should be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown or discussed with others without the editor's permission.
Objectivity Standards
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their opinions clearly, accompanied by supporting arguments.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the author. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by an appropriate citation. Reviewers should also inform the editor of any significant similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any other published manuscript of which they are personally aware.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
Confidential information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the article.
Review Process
Each manuscript submitted to Al-Manahij: Journal of Islamic Legal Studies is reviewed independently by at least two reviewers in a “double-blind review” format. The decision to publish, revise, or reject is based on their reports/recommendations. In certain cases, the editor may send the article to a third reviewer for review before making a decision, if necessary.
Author Responsibilities
Reporting Standards
Authors of original research reports must present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Basic data must be represented accurately in the article. The article must contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Falsification or deliberate inaccuracy constitutes unethical and unacceptable behavior.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that they have written entirely original work, and if the author has used the work and/or words of others, this must be properly quoted or referenced.
Duplicate, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
An author should generally not publish manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal or major publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously constitutes unethical and unacceptable publication behavior.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported research.
Author Membership
Author membership should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research. All who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. If others have participated in specific substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are listed in the article, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the article and agree to submit it for publication.
Disclosure and Conflict of Interest
All authors must disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantial conflicts of interest that might be considered to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the article.
